Breast augmentation aims to increase the size of the breasts and improve their shape and firmness. It is one of the most frequently performed surgical procedures in cosmetic surgery, with a very high satisfaction rate.
Lack of breast volume may be the result of insufficient development at puberty, or it may appear after significant weight loss or pregnancy ("empty" breasts). When the lack of volume is associated with ptosis ('sagging' breasts), breast augmentation may be combined with a breast lift.
Pre-filled silicone gel breast forms, either round or pear-shaped, are now in widespread use. They give the breast a supple feel that is close to its natural consistency. The new generations of breast implants are characterised by a wide range of sizes and shapes, enabling them to be tailored to individual morphology and expectations.
Benefits
- Trim the breasts breast enlargement: the operation increases the size of the breasts and improves their shape and firmness.
- Enhancing the silhouette Breast enlargement: breast enlargement allows you to enhance your overall figure and restore your full femininity.
During the session
Before the operation, a pre-operative consultation is compulsory to assess your expectations and choose the appropriate implant. An X-ray and pre-operative health check-up may be carried out. Depending on your morphology and the desired result, the implant will be placed under the muscle or under the mammary gland, through incisions that may be located in or around the areola, in the armpit or in the fold under the breast.
At the end of the operation, a "modelling" dressing is applied with an elastic bandage. This is removed after a few days and replaced by a lighter dressing. A bra may then be recommended day and night for a few weeks.
Breast augmentation is usually performed under local anaesthetic and sedation; in some cases, a general anaesthetic may be required. The operation does not generally require hospitalisation; in some cases, however, an overnight stay may be recommended.
Results
It takes two to three months to appreciate the final result. This is the time needed for the breasts to regain their full suppleness and for the prostheses to stabilise.
With the exception of significant weight loss, breast volume will remain stable over the long term. However, the shape and 'hold' of augmented breasts will be subject to the same effects of gravity and ageing as natural breasts - with a variable speed depending on the quality of the skin and the volume of the implants.

Pre-treatment precautions
- A pre-operative assessment may be carried out.
- Four weeks before the operation, it is essential to stop smoking.
- 14 days before the operation, you should stop taking aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs, ibuprofen, diclofenac), as well as turmeric, omega-3 and vitamin C.
Post-operative follow-up
- The post-operative period can sometimes be painful in the first few days, particularly when the implants are large and especially if they are placed behind the muscles. The most common after-effects are oedema (swelling), bruising and discomfort when raising the arms.
- Most of the time, the sutures are internal and absorbable. If they are not, they will be removed after a few days. The scars will fade over time; it is essential to avoid exposing them to the sun for 1 year.
- Work can be resumed after 2 to 10 days, depending on the operation, and sporting activities after one to two months.
