A facelift, the flagship procedure in cosmetic surgery, considerably rejuvenates the face over the long term by reshaping its contours. The aim is to reposition the deep structures of the face and neck that have relaxed and sagged over time. This restoration of the anatomical structures of the face results in a face that is on average six to ten years younger.
A cervico-facial lift is the most frequently performed surgical correction of ageing in the lower two-thirds of the face, from the temples to the neck.
It simultaneously treats several symptoms of ageing, such as jowls, sagging skin on the neck and cheeks, nasolabial folds and furrows on the forehead. On the other hand, expression lines, drooping eyelids, crow's feet and perioral wrinkles remain unchanged.
Benefits
- Natural and lasting rejuvenation Lifting: during a facelift, the muscles are re-tensioned and the skin is then re-draped as required, without excessive traction. This dual action produces a natural, long-lasting result.
Procedure
Before the operation, a pre-operative consultation is compulsory to assess your expectations and analyse the anatomy of your face. A pre-operative check-up may be carried out.
A face lift is usually performed under general anaesthetic or local anaesthetic with sedation. The incisions are placed in strategic areas (hair, around the ear, etc.) so that they are concealed as much as possible. From the incisions, a detachment is made under the skin, the extent of which depends on the extent of the relaxation of the tissues.
The musculoaponeurotic plane is then re-tensioned in an extremely precise and measured manner to correct the deep sagging, while preserving the face's natural expression.
In the case of localised excess fat, liposuction can be carried out at the same time; conversely, in the case of loss of volume, lipofilling can be considered to harmonise the final result.
It's important to note that facelifts for men have a few specific characteristics: the skin is often thicker, the hairline may shift slightly following surgery, and thinner hair doesn't hide scars as easily.
Results
Results are already visible after two weeks, but it's only after two to three months that you'll have a good idea of the final result.
In the long term, although the cervico-facial lift helps to combat the ravages of time, ageing continues to take its toll and the procedure may need to be repeated after around ten years. In order to extend this timeframe, a follow-up in aesthetic medicine is recommended.
Prepare your session
Duration of intervention : 2 to 4 hours
Pre-operative precautions
- Four weeks before the operation, it is essential to stop smoking, as well as any medication containing aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs, ibuprofen, diclofenac), turmeric, omega-3s or vitamin C.
Post-operative precautions
- After the operation, the face is wrapped in a light bandage to protect the treated areas and promote healing. You can leave the clinic 24 to 48 hours after the operation. During the first 10 days, it is essential to rest as much as possible and avoid any exertion.
- Oedema (swelling) and ecchymosis (bruising) will appear within 24 hours of the operation, and will disappear after about two weeks, disappearing completely after a month. A painful feeling of tension may also occur. The ears and cheeks will not regain their normal sensitivity until a few months later.
- It takes about two weeks to look presentable and two months to look impeccable.
