Sculptra® is a biodegradable medical injectable composed of poly-lactic acid. It is used to treat the skin at a hyper-diluted concentration, giving it a tissue-inducing action.
Injected deep into the subcutaneous tissue, Sculptra® is gradually broken down by the cells. This breakdown reaction induces a local increase in collagen production by our own cells. The result is smoother, firmer and younger-looking skin.

During the session
After a thorough discussion with the doctor and confirmation that Sculptra® is indicated, the doctor disinfects the area to be treated and reconstitutes the injectable with a saline solution and a local anaesthetic.. The injection is made using a cannula via one or two small holes. The cannula is inserted under the skin and the product is injected into the deeper layers of the skin, where it stimulates collagen production.
Results
The treatment is not very painful. After the injection, the injected volume gives a healthy glow for two to three days. The final results begin to be visible after 1 month and gradually improve up to 6-9 months. The effect lasts up to 18-24 months.

Pre-treatment precautions
- To minimise the risk of bruising, it is advisable to avoid blood-thinning substances in the days leading up to your appointment. This includes anti-inflammatories, aspirin, and supplements such as turmeric, omega-3 and vitamin C.
Post-treatment precautions
- Avoid swimming pools (risk of infection), jacuzzis and saunas for 48 hours after treatment.
- Avoid exposure to heat for the first few hours post-injection.
Contraindications
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Sinusitis and fever (if injected into the face)
- Dental treatment in progress or scheduled within two weeks of the injection (in the case of facial injections)
- Known sensitivity to amide-type local anaesthetics (lidocaine, etc.)
- On the area to be treated: cold sores, bacterial or viral infections, open wounds, skin infections, etc.
- Skin diseases, in particular infections, history of foreign body granuloma, sarcoidosis
- Porphyria
